A world Connected

As technology grows the world continues to shrink and language barriers begin to decrease. This has been seen on Xiha Life’s homepage, a forum dedicated to connecting the world through online discussions. Xiha allows users to talk about family, vacations and friends all in their own language. They offer Google translation below an article and through this they have seen many people from all over the world comment and interact with each other in several different languages.

You might say, “I have tried translations online and they are a joke.” I would be in the same boat with you, especially after studying abroad. I used translations that were so horrible my host family would look at me with a very confused expression on their face. There is no telling what I actually said. But just since that semester, computer scientists have sought for a new way to train computers to understand and interpret correctly.

With computer intelligence, translations have and are becoming more reliable and this is evident on Xiha Life. It would be silly and a long process for computer scientists to teach a program the rules of language so instead, computer scientists locate massive corpora of online documents previously translated by humans explains Wired Magazine. The documents are then used to train cloud computers to recognize which words and phrases match up in languages across the boards.

“Machine translation isn’t good enough to translate books, but when you have someone you want to talk to, it really helps out a lot,” says Jani Penttinen, CEO of Xiha Life.

Google has become the best at training their cloud and are leading the way in translations that make sense. This method of training clouds to produce accurate translations will show even more as the Web grows and develops. It is strange to think that not long ago China seemed to be a distant place but today we can speak to someone in China as if they were our neighbor and carry on conversations without knowing their language at all.

In PR, this continues to offer new ways to effectively and efficiently communicate to new audiences and expand the outlets to which our information is distributed.

Rivera Maya

So i have decided this blog is going to be about the trips and adventures I have been on since that is where it started. In saying that...

After graduation my mom and dad paid for my mom and I to go to Rivera Maya, Mexico. We stayed at an all inclusive that was incredible. While there we swam with dolphins, went to Xplor park and rode through the jungle in a jeep and swam in caves. It was quite the adventure. We then ate nice dinners and had a massage at the resort. The resort offered snorkeling and kayaking and we totally took advantage of this. We help a star fish and saw lots of fish and even an eel.

New York...I'm a traveling fool

So two weeks ago I was in the Big Apple. Max and I went for Spring Break. We had fun checking out the city but also had job interviews. It was pretty exciting but exhausting as well. The city is great though. It was so nice to be back and see the fam and walk around. We had some great food and left ready to move their and conquer the world!

First Trip since back in the USA

So being back has made me have travel fever and the first trip is in 2 weeks! I will be heading back to New York City! I am so excited. This will be my first time back since I lived there for a summer two years ago! I am excited to see my family and have my boyfriend go with. He has never been before and this will be quite an adventure for him. I hope to see the natural history museum, go by Time Inc. and say hello and show him the amazing central park and time square! O NEW YORK...I LOVE YOU!

Back and Looking for a job

I am back in the states and now the concern is job hunting. I am finishing my last semester at Oklahoma State University and looking to work in the Public Relations field in New York City in May. I have been applying like a crazy person and praying that God will open the doors to where He wants me to be. It is a pretty scary thing entering the real world in May.

1 day....

So today is the big day. I leave in an hour to start my journey home. I will be leaving on a train to Madrid...arrive in Madrid late tonight and then go straight to the airport. At the airport I will wait and wait and wait...haha...Ya I will be there for awhile and then fly out mid morning! I'm stoked. It seems so surreal though. They say while studying abroad you learn things about yourself and about the world. I would definitely say that I have changed as a person for sure. I have experiences and people I have met and memories I have made that will stay with me for a life time. I know that I will miss so much about my time here. It is weird to think that I will be going home. I have looked forward to this day and thought of all the things I have missed in America but now that I am going there I dont know how to feel.

I have had a great time and look forward to what God has in store for my future! Hopefully another big adventure soon!
